when i first heard heard the news about amber, my heart sank like i never imagined it could. amber was our first grand baby in the family and my first neice. and from day one, there was something special, and wonderful about amber that always filled your heart with joy. though many years and miles have seperated us, she always held a special place in my heart. i feel that i truely missed out, not knowing her as a young woman. but i know how wonderful a mother, and beautiful a person she was, and that she was the absolute joy of my sister Vicki's life. my heart pours out to my big sis and all of her friends and family. Amber will be forever missed and loved.

Lea Weatherford Shields (Kasilof, AK)

I have tried to gather my thoughts all week and try and make some sense of our (all of us who loved Amber) loss. My heart aches for her sons, her mom and our dad, her boyfriend, as well as the rest of her family and friends who are suffering.
The only thing that has given me comfort is to think of Amber now being reunited with her cherished daughter Chloe.

I remember the first time I saw Amber, she was a young baby and I, her 15 year old sister was her I babysitter, even then her eyes could captivate you. I was so blessed to get to know Amber.
I am so thankful for the time over the years that I was able to spend with my little sister when she came to Alaska to stay with our Dad. I am so thankful for those times which were filled with silliness, laughter and much joy. I have always wished that as adults we could have lived closer, my boys Amber's nephews have fond memories of their beautiful Aunt. Her Alaskan childhood friends have expressed their great sorrow over Amber's death.

Please know that I am praying for all of you that are suffering, especially Amber's boys, Vicki and my Dad, her boyfriend Randy; at your great loss, as well as the rest of Amber's family and friends. May God carry and comfort you as only He can.

Amber till we as sisters meet again,
(I carry your heart, I carry it in my heart.)

With love,

Lea Weatherford Shields

I have tried to come up with the right words. Nothing seems right to say at this moment. Amber was the first grandchild, the bright light that lead the way for all the grandchildren to come. She was smart and beautiful, the bond between she and Vicki shows in every picture and every smile. Miles seperate our family but the love is everlasting. I wish we could all be together right now. Just know you are all in our thoughts and prayers, here in South Dakota. Love Always and forever! Diann (Aunt Di)
