I just learned earlier today of your mom's passing. I had been thinking about her quite a bit lately and wondering how all was going. She was such a wonderful person; she will always be remembered as a very loving, loveable lady. I remember Aunt Tase as truly special. My dad always treasured his sisters and brothers. I am very sorry to hear of Aunt Tase's passing. I remember when she used to visit my Grandparents (Frederick and Sybil Faust) in Chalmette. Her and Aunt Artie would always be together smiling. I'm sure they are in heaven smiling together now!! Saturday, July 3, 2010 |

I really can not recall a time when I did not know Mrs. Smith. She was mother of a good friend and I often stayed over at their home. She was friendly, a good cook and had a sense of humor and fun. I attended church with the family at Bethel Baptist when not attending my own - First Baptist. Mrs. Smith was an excellent cook which included terrific french fries. Her most important legacy has to be the Special Education classes which she was very instrumental in getting added to the Kountze School system. One of her children had been ill when a baby which resulted in learning problems. She was not allowed to attend school. That was a red flag to Mrs. Smith who sent Joyce and I out to canvass the neighborhood - obtaining signatures. That we did and before long Special Education was part of the school. Many years have passed since that time and many children who had little hope of a better future have grown up and have families of their own. Mrs. Smith never wrote a book or had a street named for her or a building but on the heart of those children is the name of Mrs. Smith - whose selfless efforts opened the door for a new generation of children and it continues to this very day.
