As Granny & Papa's first grandchild, Walter Earl set the bar high for service to others for all us grandkids. What a fine man he was. We'll miss him always.

He was more than just a family friend; he is indeed family to me and my sister and brother. He was always there for us, whenever we needed him, just like he was to countless other people.
I still have fond memories, of when I lived down the road from him, several years ago, of working at the Fire Station in Spurger with him, when they were building it. Other days, we would work at his place all day and then go into Jasper to eat, and of course, also to shop at Walmart! I think Golden Corral was his favorite! I also enjoyed watching NBA games and Cowboy games with him on Sunday afternoons. He hated the LA Lakers!!
Rest In Peace, Walter - Your good deeds have served you well!!

Coach was a very kind man,he taught me how to play basketball in junior high school 7th & 8th grade,he had the best ball team there was at Spurger ISD & he was my P.E. teacher also.I joined the Spurger Vol Fire Dept when I was 16 yrs old & Coach was also a Vol.Fireman too,we faught a lot of fire's together. When I got into high school he & I worked together at Mott's tire shop in Spurger across from the post office. Coach was a very kind, caring, helpful man to know & always had a smile on his face & would tell the long stories of his hunting & fishing trips that he took. No matter where you was you always got a story from Coach & boy could he tell them. I have many memories that I will cherish for many years to come.He may be gone but I promise you one thing he will live forever in my life with fun times & memories to chairish. I am blessed that Coach was a part of my life thru all these years.

Mr. Marcontell was a very cool teacher. He always opened class with a joke which I'll never forget how he would laugh at them. He sure made learning fun. You will be missed by all.
