I will miss Howell’s jokes and cheerful nature. He was (as Bill Barclay reminded me) the last of the Mohicans. Till the circle is unbroken. Thursday, September 10, 2015 |

Engaging, witty, and a master storyteller, Dr. Gwin was one of my favorite professors. What a loss to the LU community! My deepest condolences to the family and friends. Thursday, September 10, 2015 |

Dr. Gwin was perhaps the best storyteller that I have personally encountered. His love of the material was contagious and I, although a science major, found a way to sneak one of his classes into my course load over several semesters even after my required courses were met. A true "Southern Gentleman" is how I always described his easy charm. Over the years, I found Dr. Gwin to be caring, giving, and also to be a man of his word. He will me missed! I can hardly believe it. Just this past February Howell and I were among the pallbearers for another LU history prof, Naaman Woodland. Howell began teaching at Lamar right about the time I started my career as a student there. I never had a class from him, but my daughter did many years later. I loved his slide show on his dig at an Arthurian site in England, back in the '70s! a great and kind man, he will be missed! Tuesday, September 8, 2015 |
