Naaman Johnson Woodland, Jr.
June 20, 1926 - February 23, 2015
Patricia Kell (Baytown, TX)

Dr. Woodland was a friend and fellow history enthusiast. He encouraged me in my studies and my interest in history many times. I knew him to always be friendly, warm and caring. It was my pleasure to know him. Please accept my sympathy.

My memories of Naaman are rich and indelible. I do not think first of service on innumerable committees and councils at Lamar, but of art and music, of shared membership in First United Methodist Choir and Beaumont Interfaith Choir and of impromptu Monday morning discussions about any opera I had somehow managed to miss on NPR the previous Saturday afternoon. I think of the first flowers of his camellia bushes each season which he shared with many of us at Lamar, I think of my neighbor, and I think of my friend. Naaman was a dear man greatly to be missed.

Naaman is a model of a life well-lived. He contributed so much to Lamar University and Beaumont. Our sympathy to his family.
