Always the gentleman, Mr. Szafir greeted me in the downtown store back in the 1960s as though I were a big-time customer.
A burgeoning young writer at the time, all I'd need would be a ream of paper or a typewriter ribbon, yet he never failed to thank me for the business and bid me come back again. When he upgraded to IBM Selectrics, Mr. Szafir gave me a great deal on one of the older models his office staff had been using, and I felt like I was becoming a "real" writer.
Thanks to him, I did, and now, my heart goes out to the family at the loss of this fine individual. My deepest condolences to all who knew him.

Peggy you are in our thoughts and prayers. I always loved seeing the two of you in Mixed Doubles SS or at Blackeyed pea. I'm happy that Alex is home with the Lord but know you feel lost right now.
