As a young married woman with a disabled sick husband Alton took care of my vehicles on several occasions. He went out of his way to work with me when I had money issues. He was a man who truly cared about the people he served and you knew it. I have been there many times when someone down on their luck would come in asking for money and he would send them to the Pig Stand (I am telling my age, Lol) and tell them to just tell the waitress to put it on his account and he never did it in a way that made a person feel beneath him. I truly believe he knew what the saying "but for the grace of God there go I" and he lived by that. Things got better and I had newer vehicles so I didn't see him as much as in my younger years but in the last few years my new husband went there often to get LIT's vehicles serviced, so I kept up with how he was doing. My human heart is saddened by the loss of a man I considered to be a friend and admired very much. It makes me hurt less to consider October 31st 2014 as his "heavenly birthday." My spiritual heart knows that he is in heaven with our Lord, with no pain, no tears, no worries....and if God has a vehicle in heaven Alton is most likely telling him what's wrong with it.
