Uncle Lew will be missed!

There are so many special memories we all have of Uncle Lew aka “Lew Lew”, like his special way of greeting everyone that visited - with a big grin and then the “head rub”! It didn’t matter to him if you had spent an hour combing your hair just right, he had to get that head rub in and would laugh while rubbing. Oh, and he had a VERY distinctive laugh. Everyone knew when Lew Lew was laughing, and you couldn’t help but laugh with him.

Some of his greatest passions were animals, especially horses and dogs, bowling and painting. Not just any picture would do for him to paint, he liked the paint by numbers on black velvet. He would paint those pictures and then give them away.

He also enjoyed his trips to Arkansas to visit with Uncle John and his trips to the lake with Uncle Sunny. Of course it took some coaxing to get him to go to the lake, but once he went on that first trip, he looked forwarded to going back with Uncle Sunny.

I remember all those family holiday gatherings when Uncle Lew would remove his hearing aids and go to his room when he was tired of listening to everyone. There were 11 nieces and nephews plus his 6 siblings and in-laws, so it could get rather loud. I think some of the other adults wished they could’ve “turned down” the volume like Uncle Lew. And, when it was time to open gifts, Uncle Lew was ALWAYS the last one to finish unwrapping. He had to remove one piece of scotch tape at a time being careful not to tear the paper or box. One of the last gifts I gave him was a set of deep pocket sheets for his bed. Now most people would not have appreciated a set of sheets as a gift, but Uncle Lew was happy to receive them. As soon as he finished unwrapping the package, he immediately took them to the bedroom to change the sheets on his bed. I could not convince him that the new sheets needed to be washed first. It was the simple things in life that made him happy!

In my heart I know Uncle Lew was welcomed home with a very special reunion! Rest in Peace Uncle Lew.
