Maurice "Maury" Meyers

Mike Cacioppo (Beaumont, TX)

Dear Meyers Family,

Thank you for sharing Maury with us. In 1980, I was a new employee at the City of Beaumont. While I was eating lunch in the break room, your father, the mayor, took the time to come over & say hello to me. That meant a lot to a new employee that was on his first real job.

Over the years, your father never failed to say hello. When I worked at Starship Hallmark, your parents would stop in & I enjoyed talking with him about his newspaper column.

In later years, I would be on my morning walk & he would be on his bike, but he would always say hello.

I thank him for always being so friendly & for all that he did for Beaumont. He ran a great business. He had the vision that Beaumont could be so much better. He did it all while building bridges with all the citizens. Beaumont could use Maury today.

Thank you,

Mike Cacioppo

I remember my uncle Maury as a person who didn't have to say a lot to get a point across. When I told him I was self employed he simply pointed and said what you are doing takes a lot of guts ... Just the way he said it is something I still remember to this day. I also remember playing a round of golf with him and finally on one of the last holes, hit a decent shot. His comment was, "now that's a golf shot".

So sorry to hear of Maury's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him on the Jefferson Awards program, under the sponsorship of The Beaumont Enterprise, for several years. He was an amazing man. Thoughtful, caring, kind, gentle, yet decisive, fair, and a true leader. I watched as he struggled with his illness, never complaining about the struggle or his predicament, but only about the limitations it placed on him being able to do yet more good works. Arline and family, so sorry for your loss, and for the loss to the Beaumont community. May God comfort you.

Arline,
I am so very sorry for your huge loss. I hope that you are surrounded by loved ones who will wrap you in warmth and help support you as you take things one day at a time. You were a devoted and loving caregiver for Maury, and I imagine that you are depleted. I have been in similar shoes. Try to now take care of Arline.

Love,

Linda
