My deepest sympathy at the passing of your wonderful mother. When Charlotte married my father's first cousin, the whole family was buzzing with enthusiasm. In all the years, I have heard only praise for the way Charlotte lived her life and managed your family.
My fondest memory of her was an afternoon at the kitchen table in Beaumont a couple of years ago. She and The Congressman had just returned from a trip to the market when I called to see them on short notice. We drank coffee and talked about life and friends and loved ones. We laughed a lot and took time to remember Aunt Grace and Uncle Gene with respect and amusement. They made me feel that no other events in the world were more inportant than the conversation taking place at the kitchen table that Tuesday afternoon.
Your mother was a patriot that served our country quietly, yet effectively as she set about just being Charlotte Brooks. She loved her country, her husband and her children. She has left her mark on this world. And it is a good thing.
