We met Jack and Mamie at Lakeview Diner. It was tiny then and they offered to share a table. It turned out that he graduated from Beaumont High with one of my aunts. We became friends and were invited to pick blueberries in the fields behind the house. What a joy is was to have "organic," almost wild berries! Jack was always so kind to show us how to wear the buckets and where the most productive trees grew. Losing Mamie was so hard on Jack and it was a blessing that she rested nearby. He never let us pay for the berries and the best gift we every brought was flowers for Mamie. Jack was a good man and an outstanding example for friends and family. It was an honor to have known him.
