I knew Thelma from my birth. Mother would come home from visiting at the Coles' with the neatest, newest joke to tell us. Thelma was fun...a great comfort to me during Hurricane Rita when she, John and Bonnie chose not to leave Beaumont and I couldn't--that snapshot of the two ladies standing at the sink cleaning shrimp, making an abnormal event seem almost normal will always be with me. It's too bad we must grow old, but the Lord tells us we might never want to leave, otherwise.

Herb and Jack - Your mom was such a lovely lady. Her gumbo was one of the highlights of our annual Christmas visit to Beaumont. I always enjoyed being in her home and have wonderful memories of times at the beach house with your family. She will be missed by many. -- Judy

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of "Aunt Thelma's" family and friends. She was a great inspiration to us--she had a great outlook on life, and lived that life on her own terms. We will miss her.

I've known Mrs. Cole since I was 12 or 13. She was a delightful person and a wonderful mom. Not only that, but she made the very best Gumbo EVER. To this day it is the best I've ever tasted. (And my wife and I make a pretty fair pot ourselves). And like my own mother, Mrs. Cole was always happy to see us and took an interest in what us boys were doing - or more likely what we were up to. She was an easy person to talk to (for a parent) and seemed to actually like us, rather than just put up with us. Jack was lucky to have a mother like Mrs. Cole and I am lucky to be Jack's friend and been able to know her.

I loved to hear her tell talk about rice farming and when her home was built in the early 1930's. She always spoiled our family with her chocolate pecan clusters at Christmas. Our deepest sympathy.
