I would always get a phone call at home from the "Easter Bunny" or "Santa Claus" after getting my "holiday haircut". David aka Easter Bunny or Santa Claus always made the holidays special for me! What an icon in the Sour Lake community. He will be missed.

Amazing man who always had a smile and a great story. I remember when he gave my little brother his first hair cut, as I am sure so many of the kids in and around Sour Lake do.
Mike, I am so sorry for your loss my old friend. Your father was an amazing man who touched so many lives. Heaven got one of the good ones. Your family is in my prayers.

As I have walked through this life I have often said with pride, do you know David Payne? Most people would say *doesnt everyone* I would laugh and say well David is my Cousin. I would always say it with pride because I knew David you were a respected man maybe not of a HUGE city but a small town that you were very proud to be a part of. I cannot ever remember going into the Barber Shop that you did not stop and take the time to talk to me. Even when I was a small child. I dont think people realize how important it is to just talk to kids like they are humans but you did. I know you will never be forgotten. Everyone will always have the memories of David Payne and the Barber Shop. So as I end this I would like to say thank you David for never brushing me off when I came by the shop. Thank you for listening to me. Thank you for that one and only David Payne smile. I know you are in heaven so when you see my Daddy and my Brother give them a hug for me. You will truly be missed so until we meet again, love to you always. Carla
