David was a fine man and a wonderful Hardin County historian. Yes, he wore many other hats throughout his life. Mayor. Fire chief. Super Old Timers' Day promoter. Oh, yeah. And, he gave pretty good haircuts from time to time between long chats where local and world problems were discussed and quickly solved. It's difficult to imagine Sour Lake without David Payne. Prayers going out to family and friends.

Steve and I just heard and want you to know that you are in our prayers and that we love you. David holds a very special place in our hearts as he is the one who cut Morgan's hair for the very first time. If you need anything at all, please call.

So very sad and such a huge loss for aquaintances, friends, family and the whole community. David seemed bigger than life and I don't think anyone that ever met him could forget his caring and genuine interest in each of them. Prayers for comfort to all who knew and loved him. Becky
