We were so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. Our prayers and most sincere condolences to the family. I am so glad that Wayne and I were able to stay in touch by phone calls and email through the years. We shared many fond memories of our years playing in the old Beaumont Symphony Orchestra together and we shared a bond that only trombone players can understand. Beyond being a gifted musician and educator, Wayne was a brother and a friend to all. He will be missed.

Dr. Dyess was not only an incredible musician, he was a class act in every respect. I first met him when he was the featured artist at the SFA Jazz Festival when I was in the Swingin Axes, and later when he helped with the recording session for the Sounds of Swing CD in 2007. His gracious manner and friendship will be missed. God bless you Doc.

Dear dear Dr. Wayne... I do miss you already. Musician's somehow truly understand each other. I really enjoyed our email communications over the years and miles. Keep writing some wonderful Arrangements up there, and start a new Night And Day Orchestra? Say hello to Stan ... JJx

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Dyess. He was one of my professors when I studied music education at Lamar in the mid 80s. I had not seen him since graduating in 1986, but, while I was at Lamar, I always appreciated his kindness, gentleness, and encouragement. Mr. Dyess understood how important my faith was to me and, in his own way, he supported me in my faith many times when we talked and as he shared that great smile of his. I'm so thankful for his impact on my life. My prayers are with his family at this time.

Remembering your smile and great spirit Wayne. I will miss playing in the same section with you. Thank you SO much for all that you did for me when I moved into the area 16 years ago. I will miss your playing... But more, I will miss my dear friend. Rest in peace...

Dr Dyess was a phenomenal musician and person. His sense of humor and personality were second to none. He made marching band and wind ensemble so much fun and I am a better musician because of him. May God bless and guide all of his friends and family during this difficult time.

There just aren't words to express my or my fellow classmates grief. Wayne was a first class friend, mentor, teacher, disciplinarian & musician. He had the amazing gift of making everyone feel valued and cared about and passed on his love of music & teaching to many, many people. But most of all, he made it all fun. It was truly a labor of love for him. Godspeed Wayne. We love you and we will miss you always!

To Linda & family, Emily & I are so saddened by your loss. Since our time together at SFA, Wayne has been an inspiration to so many of us - his monumental talent, both in music and his genuine concern for all his students and coworkers, his infectious smile, his true friendship to so,so many; he will surely be missed but never forgotten. We love you, Wayne. Bill & Emily
