I am a member of the Poetry Society of Texas. I did not have the privilege of meeting this wonderful woman and poet. I have read her poetry, articles. and information concerning her life and accomplishments. I have listened to so many stories told by PST members about a lady they dearly love. I know she was an inspiration to so very many, including me.

To the family,
I am so sorry for your loss, Violette and my mother, Margaret Moore, were good friends. As I was sorting out my parents things, I came across several poems that Violette had written and given to my Mom. I enjoyed the poems and had a good feeling thinking of their friendship. I hope your good memories lessen your loss.

I had the pleasure to meet Violette while I was staying at the Ridgewood for a short time a few years ago. She told me about her books and poems, and how talented her children were. Violette asked me if I had heard "the beautiful music my daughter Roma makes," and I told her that I had indeed! She was a very interesting and delightful person, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to know her.
My prayers are with her family.

I knew Violette through the time that my daughter and her daughter, Erin, were in school together. Also through the Wells family that we called kissing kin. I enjoyed the book of poetry that she gave to my daughter. Also always thought so much of the talent she had. She was a wonderful lady and I kept up with her through Lou and Birma. Many times our prayer chain at Amelia Baptist prayed for her. Love, Billye Vickers

Violette was a great friend to poetry, especially to poetry in Texas, which is the title of one of her wisest poems. She was a good, clear voice for many years.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Ms. Violette was so talented and special. God has promised that soon 'he will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more.' (Revelation 21:4) I hope this brings you some comfort.

Sympathy to the Newton family on the passing of this special lady. Her name brings back memories of my father, Ernest Willard Frank, as he began his poetry writings during the 70's with much encouragement from her. When Dad's first book, From the Stars to the Sea, was published Violette wrote the review in the Enterprise. I can just see Dad, Mom & Violette discussing prose and poetry and eating Mom's orange bundt cake, now in Heaven. Precious memories.

Violette was my hero, my inspiration and teacher. I learned poetry from her, explored Ireland and Guatemala through her books, She taught me to never end my sentences with "at", and oh, so many other things. I will miss her and know her family will, too. My heart goes out to all of you. Lou Whitaker
