I was one of Mr. Knapp's students during the early 1970's at Vincent Junior High. I still remember his band class like it was yesterday. Through the years I thought of him often, as he made a positive impression on me at an early age.. He was one of those teachers you never forgot, and whose values stay with you for life. Mr Knapp you will be missed, but your legacy will live on in all who were fortunate enough to have known you.

I was very sorry to hear of Don Knapp's passing. I didn't know him nearly as well as everyone else has, but I did know him to be a fine man! I remember first meeting him in 1970, after our family moved to Beaumont. To his entire family... I and my family confer our most sincere condolences.

I have been traveling for the last few days on business and apologize for not being able to make it to the service. Your dad was a great influence for me during my time in Jr.High and High School. I also remember all the fun we had on the travels with the Fun Travelers group. What a great way to grow up! He will be missed, but I am sure he has already put together a band in his new home. I hope to get to hear him play again some day.

I'm so sorry I did not learn of the news in time to come to the funeral. Don meant a lot to my development as a musician while he as teacher at Austin Jr. High School. The lessons he taught in music theory are the specific reason I majored in music theory and composition.I am a professional composer now. Also, his encouragement in my efforts at playing the viola in his Austin Jr.High orchestra is the reason I continued playing the instrument in college, in the symphony, and I still play today. Thanks, Mr. Knapp! Love, Barbara Mabry Hagen

In the sixth grade at Giles Elementary there were "tryouts" to be in the band or orchestra. I thought I wanted to play the violin for some reason, but Mr. Knapp convinced me to learn to play cornet in the band. He was my first and third band director at Giles and Memorial, and also taught me private lessons in which he showed the patience and kindness that all teachers should have with their students. His inspiration resulted in many pleasant band experiences for me throughout high school and college......I am proud to have known him.
