I was introduced to Frank when my mother went to his art store.
She purchased 'Lake Pothole' and another sculpture of the same
type. I have been a fan ever since.
Didn't he take groups of people to San Miguel, Mexico? I think
she and other art students from Lamar went one year.
Anyway, I have fond memories of every time I saw him!
Wow, just think of all the artists who welcomed him home!
Wonder if they have margaritas' in heaven?

So sad to hear you passed Frank. You were one of my favorite teachers way back when. I hope you find everything you seek on the other side!

Hey Frank! It'a amazing to me that you show up in my life even after you are in another plane. The other day I was looking at a watercolor you helped me paint years ago and there you were in the birds that were sitting on one of the down spout of the San Antonio Church here in San Miguel (I am in SMA I write this). You know exactly which painting I am referring to..... You painted those birds for me! I am thankful you have been a part of my life since I was in high school. I will miss seeing you on my trips back to Beaumont and I will also miss all the jokes you used to send via email. Wherever you are I am sure you are smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee out of the clay mugs from San Miguel, painting, baking pecan pies and having a blast! In addition to missing your email jokes and out visits while I am in Texas I will miss having the opportunity of bringing to you from San Miguel the Faros cigarettes, mugs and Mexican vanilla. I bet you already have all those things were you are so I suppose you aren't feeling the lack of them! Thank you for enriching my life! I love you! Love, Kate

ps.....this is not part of the "Frank" note. To whom ever is reading this post; Please tell Jimbo and Tom that Kate Bordages says hello and if Joe Catatlano is still there hello to him too. I sort of know of Joe's life through my mom and Alice the manicurist. Boy, does time fly to think that the Broussard's have a son old enough to help run the show down there! I remember Blue from when he was kid at crawfish boils at Oak Knoll Farm! Glad to see he is carrying on the family business. Okay....thank you for letting me bend your ear with my greetings to all those people!!! I am sure you did a very loveyly job with Frank's funeral. You have always served the community's needs well including members of my own immediate famly. Have a nice day! Sincerely, Kate Bordages

Oh, feeling sad today as I looked up Frank and found his self-written obit here. To his daughter, sister and all his family....we pray you are comforted by many great memories.

We feel so very blessed to have known Frank, to have shared the love of art & Mexico, to have the privelege of visiting him in his Beaumont home years ago and so honored to have shown his work in San Antonio.

As many have expressed, there's a big ol' hole in this world where Frank's heart resided. Tough on the outside, soft in the middle. To leave behind so many friends and former students is testament to Frank's giving spirit and sweet soul.

We'll be singing Terry Allen with Frank in our hearts!

ON THE DEATH OF FRANK W. GERRIETTS
1937-2012

Sorrow, like space, has no depths to plummet,
no heights to exceed.
A raven flies through my mind,
the flutter of its dark wings
leaving silvered dust particles
scattered across the moon’s heart.
But the night has its own sounds that mark the
trails of grief:
voice of a dog gnawing on stars,
mist colliding against footfalls.

Lisa, I give you this poem written and dedicated to my old friend and your dear father. I will miss him.

Remembering you Frank as one of dads (Clell Breining) best friends. I know you two are probably discussing the worlds affairs at this moment. The world is a darker place without both of you.
Broadmoor Street will never be the same without out families there. Our greatest sorrow and sympathy goes out to his family and friends alike.

Sincerly,
Diana Breining Flood

Frank you will be surely missed by all what a loss to to the art world! You were such an inspiration to me, I know I would not have accomplished all that I have with my paintings and studies if I had not been student !!!

I have very fond memories of my classes with Mr. Gerrietts. He was the "cool" teacher that always encouranged creativity and shared some of his interesting pieces (specifically his beltbuckle) and beautiful art. I actually still have two rings I made in his class - they no longer fit and lost their shine long ago, but I always think of Mr. G and the carefree days under his guidance. Farewell Mr. G I hope you find the red head...

I was one of the lucky ones who had Mr. Gerrietts for Arts and Crafts at Forest Park.He was the kind of teacher who taught more life than anything else and the art would flow. My favorite teacher of all time. The world has lost a Great Man Rest in Peace Kind Sir!!!!!!
