Perhaps one of the toughest professors I had while attending Lamar - but I learned a lot in his class. A true loss.

Gertrude, I know this has been a very painful, lonely time for you. It may not seem possible now but it will get better with time and you are a strong person. We will all miss Dick with his warmth, his quick wit, the quiet grin and twinkle in his eye. You, of course, feel his loss most keenly, but that is the price we pay for the privilege of having known him.

To Dick's Family....
I am fortunate to have known Dick as a professor and as a friend. He was a wonderful friend and over the years we had many fun conversations. Those conversations were always filled with lots of laughs. In class he was all business. He'd go down the row and ask each student to answer one homework question. An attempt to answer was okay, but if a student said "I don't know" they were questioned about their interest in passing the course.
Dick's recent years healthwise have been difficult, but he faced it all with dignity.
Farewell, my friend; I'll miss you for the wonderful prof you were, and for the great friend you were.
