Uncle Larry had a genuine warmth and concern for other people. I know he will be greatly missed. We know we will see him again one day!

I thought I would be attending a funeral today, in support of my old friend, Rachel, whose father passed on.

Instead, I witnessed a glorious, living memorial to a beloved father by four devoted children whose love, gratitude, and respect for a parent is unmatched in anything I've ever seen.

Even in the greatest grief they've known, those children ministered to all of us in attendance, by showing the devotion, respect, humor, and hope in Christ that they grew up in, with the nurture and guidance of Larry and Shirley Overton. Whether they spoke intimately, or sang flawlessly, they gave of themselves so lovingly that it was a true testament to their daddy, and a true testament to a strength which is found only in everyday ministry, taught as only such a man can teach to his children.

More than that, they inspired others to strive to live a life that would be as meaningful and generous as was their father's. They certainly reminded me to give thanks to God for time with my own parents.

You're a fortunate man, Mr. Overton, to whom much honor comes. You were shown to have been a successful father today, in Christ.

So sorry for your loss.....Larry will be missed...I can remember the day he pierced my ears and I was so excited. I will never forget the potato and ice. May God bless you in this time of sorry.

Larry Overton was a very special man; kind hearted and willing to help with whatever it was you needed. He was a hard worker and a christian man. Once after the storm Rita, he went with me to get the supplies I needed for the back porch. And then he put the roof on my porch for me; I offered him money but he would not hear of it. I found out that he liked lemon cake; so I made him a cake as a sort of payment for the roof . That roof on my patio stayed thru the next storm, Ike. He was a great friend and I loved him for the person he was. He is in Heaven looking over us all with a smile.

You were an Uncle I never got to meet, but from what I understand you were a great man and a wonderful husband to my sweet Aunt. I know you are now in God's embrace and will suffer no more on this earth. We will meet one day, when God sends his angels for me, save a place at his table. Rest in eternal peace.
