Although I haven't seen or talked to Mr. Charles in many years, I still think about him often especially since two of our grandchildren are in the band program. He was my favorite teacher, and I will always remember what fun we had in band at Port Neches Jr. High during the years of 1964-67! He always had a smile and no matter what kind of day you were having - attending his band class seemed to make everything better. My mother taught school at PNJH with him and considered him a good friend and well-respected coworker. He will be missed by so many people, but will live forever in the memories of those who knew him. I am so sorry for your loss.

To the family of Mr. Charles -

I am a former student of Mr. Charles, and I would like to offer my sincere condolences to you. I have fond memories of Mr. Charles, who I was fortunate enough to have as a teacher for 3 years at PNMS. He was a special educator; genuinely interested in his students, always encouraging, and at the same time challenging his students. He was a joy to be around, and without question one of my favorite teachers ever - the kind you don't forget. He left behind quite a legacy. May God bless you during your time of loss.

Harry was my first clarinet teacher in about 1976. Fellow graduate of SMU, fellow Sinfonian, fellow member of the Beaumont Symphony, and one of God's truly wonderful people. He was a fixture at Port Neches-Groves for more than 30 years and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Will never forget all the wonderful years I spent with Mr. Charles-- in his Jr. High band in the 60's and then as a co-worker at PNMS. Also I am so glad my own son got to enjoy him when he went through PNMS. A truly fine man--

Thanks for the encouragement, friendship, advice, jokes, and most of all the memories I'll never forget. Rest in peace, Harry. We'll miss you greatly; there'll never be another one like you. Love you.

Mr. Charles, you and my Dad will once again make some beautiful music together.

Mrs. Charles, your husband was one of my Dad's best friends. He so admired Mr. Charles and really enjoyed his company. I'm so sorry for your loss. Harry Charles was one of a kind.

I was a part of Mr. Charles' PRIDE class for three years at PNMS, and he has always been my favorite teacher. His enthusiasm, intellect and humor made class so much fun. ("Are you playing Statue of Liberty, or do you have a question?")
He cared about each of us and made me feel good about myself even in those awkward junior high years. I'm praying for your family in the days ahead and for all the students who will miss him too. Rest in peace, Mr. Charles. You were the best!

My condolences to the family of 'Uncle Harry'. Although it has been over forty years, I remember him so vividly. His humor, his devotion to teaching, his kindness- all these were an inspiration to generations of people who benefitted greatly from knowing him.
