My heartfelt sympathy to Clayton's family. We were classmates and had kept in touch off and on thru the years. Clayton was a very careing and talented person he will be missed by all who knew him. My prayers are with his family.

Clay,
We will keep you and you family in our prayers as God helps you get through the loss of your Dad. Be encouraged with this scripture: Psalm 46:1-2 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Just the other day I read in the Houston Chronicle where Clay's son ,the singer, indicated his dad was gravely ill in a hospice here in Houston. The reason I took notice is that Clay Sr.and I were close friends growing up in Beaumont in the late '50s and early '60s. I remember very well the little house they lived on Highland ave.Clay and I, in fact, raised cows together on their property off of Erie St. in Beaumont. I eventually had to sell my cattle because my family and I later moved to the North side. Clay also had a buckskin horse he named "Buck". In fact this horse just about killed me by throwing me off and falling on me.They rushed me to a hospital, but it all turned out well.We had some wild adventures back then, hunting ,working around the farm just being kids you know. It's so hard to believe he has passed. I had no idea his brothers John Earl and Bobby are gone as well, along with mom Mary.

Clay, you don't know me, but of course I am a fan, and will always appreciate the help you gave us, people with MS, when hurricane Rita hit our area. I am so sorry about the loss of your father. I lost my mother 2 1/2 yrs. ago, time does not heal, but it does make the pain more bearable. My prayers are with you and your family. Ruth Thomas
