Dear Family and Friends:
I just wanted to take a moment to offer my sincere condolences on the passing of our dear friend, Lulu Smith Washburn.
Below are my views of Lulu Smith :
1) The Lulu Smith I knew had great courage. She was never afraid to speak out against the status quo and conventional wisdom……..
2) The Lulu Smith I knew had amazing wisdom. She always knew her subject matter - - and could always defend it…..
3) The Lulu Smith I knew had conviction. She always felt strong about her ideas, no matter what anyone else thought.
4) The Lulu Smith I knew had clarity. Her message was typically simple, concise and easily understood…..
5) And the Lulu Smith I knew had credibility. She dang sure knew how to walk the walk and talk the talk.
No one had more compromising integrity than Lulu . She always thought with discipline and honesty. She could sort through flattery, through politics and could always see things as they truly were.
She was a most remarkable woman and physician. I always viewed Lulu as incredibly competent, very caring and amazingly confident.
You see I knew Lulu as far back as when she went to medical school at the University of Texas in Galveston.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Family.

My thoughts and prayers are with Lulu and her family. One of the greatest lady's I ever had the pleasure to know while doing her hair in the early morning hours before she started her days work back in the 80's. she had such kind compassion for everyone. May she rest in peace

Lulu and Jack were in the same medical school class at UTMB, even thoough she started a bit later than Jack. Jack and I enjoyed friendship with her and Wes in Beaumont during the many years that all three practiced in Beaumont. Both were well worth knowing, and Wes and Lulu will remain in our memories always. Jack did have an opportunity to visit with Lulu at their 50th reunion in Galveston two or three years ago, not sure that Lulu really recognized Jack, but she smiled, and chatted with us at the reunion. Even though Jack was concerned at the time, he very much enjoyed seeing Lulu! Jack also enjoyed working with Lulu at the Beaumont Art Museum for a long time. This was a common interest.
GOD bless all of Lulu's family from Kelly and Jack. We will always remember her, a lovely friend.

I was a patient of Dr. Smith back in the 90's. She found a lump and sent me for a mamogram. Without her sending me I wouldn't be here today. She was always so kind and gentle with me and never rushed me out the door. She was truly a Dr who cared about her patients and people in general. I am so sorry for the families loss, but I know she has a place that's been reserved for her in Heaven. God bless
