Dear Howard and family, Our hearts are heavy for you in this time of sadness. Joan is no longer in pain but is now singing with the heavenly choir. What an incredible inspiration she was to all she met on her journey through life, always encouraging and uplifting others. Through the years there are so many wonderful memories of special times together that will be in our hearts forever. Everyone who knew her is richer for the experience of having known one of God's angels on this earth. We were blessed not only to claim her as family, but as a special friend. That sweet smile will be etched in our minds always. Our prayers and love are with you.

Joan was a very special person and truly a positive spirit on this earth. I always enjoyed hearing her laugh. I have many fond memories of being "farmed out" when we would visit Beaumont due to the limited space at 1965 Briarcliff. I spent many nights with Howard and Joan and they would always find something for me to do to earn a dollar, and then we would go to a movie or go to a dime store so I could buy something.
Joan always had a calming effect on me and probably many others. I know she is reaping the rewards for a life of faith that was lived to the fullest despite all the challenges she faced. Just last Friday, May 14, Joan was one of the people I honored as I walked in Relay For Life. She is part of the reason I have kept up that tradition since 1997.

Howard and family, I can't remember seeing Joanie without a smile on her face. Today has been a very reflective day for me as I have been remembering her. Walking to your home after school and ironing for her when she was pregnant, babysitting with Danny many times, and then having Susan grow up and babysit my children! I guess one of my most vivid was staying with her when she was so sick with the measles the night you graduated from Lamar. I remember having Big Mama and Daddy Roy's 50th wedding anniversary at ya'll house. I wanted to grow up and live in that house. Sweet, sweet memories from your precious family. I love you. Sandy

Dear Howard, I am so sorry for your loss! I know Joan is with the Lord now but you will miss her. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 so now I understand how horrible this disease truly is! I just wanted you to know that I will be praying for you and the rest of the family. I hope you are ok. I still love you and would love to hear from you!! You were always such an encouragement to me and I have taken it with me all these years! Please let me know how you are or if there is anything I can do besides pray. We love you!! Elizabeth (and Mike) Edmonson
