Judge Wendell Conn Radford

Dear Jill and Family:

My thoughts, and prayers, are with you and your family
at this time of sorrow.

Wendell was a dear friend of mine since our days of
playing tennis at the Pt. Neches Park when we were in high
school. He played so much better than myself, having been awarded a college scholarship in tennis. (I wasn't aware
of this at the time!)

We worked together in the Criminal District Court, in 1966-67, when he was an Asst. District Attormey for Jefferson County. I remember him making some great Jury
Arguments, in his rookie year . He was so witty, friendly, and
endearing to our staff and to Judge George Taylor. We
had some great times. We worked night sessions then, as the jury was locked up overnight during trials.

Wendell would always call Jill from our office
during these night sessions to check in with her. He
was a wonderful person and a very good attorney. He
will be dearly missed.

Wendell was the kindest, most thoughtful person man I met when I came back to Beaumont. He acknowledged and thanked everyone and he was always aware of the comfort and needs of the people around him. I never knew Wendell in the courtroom but I often wondered how difficult it might have been when he had to render harst judgements. I am sure he pondered and examined every decision. Out of the courtroom, Wendell was always positive - the perfect host, the amusing story teller, the supportive friend. He will be missed.

Please know that you and the rest of your families are in my thoughts and prayers. My favorite memory of Wendall was calling him at his office to tell him about a speeding ticket I received in college. (I know he had a thousand of those calls!) He just laughed and said, "Don't worry Rhonda Kay, I'll take care of it." I still managed to get caught by mom!! He had such a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed throughout the community. I am so sorry for your loss, I wish I could take some of your pain away. I used to look forward to receiving emails from him after he retired. I loved Judge Radford like a father, I will miss him dearly.

Magistrate Radford was a wonderful man, incredible father, and fair jurist, just to mention a few of his wonderful qualities. And he never failed to make me laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Radford, Pam, Chip, the spouses, the grandchildren, and I'm sure there was a dog or two, at least. I seem to recall that after Rocky there were no more squirrels. All my love, prayers and support to the family.
