John and I are very sorry that we were out of town when Wendell died and for his funeral. He was a wonderful man who was very smart and had a lovely sense of humor. He will certainly be missed.

Dear Ms. Jill and family, So sorry to hear of Wendell's passing, but am so confident he would be so pleased with the Memorial Service last weekend - I'm sorry I couldn't be there, but know it was so wonderful for mom to be there "singing for Wendell". My deepest sympathies and praise for a wonderful life to have blessed the church and community.

To Jill & Family:
Please accept my condolences during this most difficult time. Wendell was a great friend, mentor and counselor. From elementary school through my collegiate days we shared scouting, sports, hunting, summer employment, football training and served as fraternity brothers. Please know that I share in your loss and am most thankful to have fond memories of Wendell's keen intellect, his special humor, his decency, his proud service to the community, the state, and the country. But most of all, his ability to talk his way out of most situations with his mother! My wife and I offer our prayers and hope that you and your family find comfort in knowing that he was, to me, a very special and gifted gentleman and friend. He will be sorely missed.

My deepest and most sincere condolences to the family. I can add nothing that hasn't been said so meaningfully already, except to say Wendell and I were friends for almost 60 years, and throughout those six decades I never heard a disparaging word concerning him. Not one. I mourn your loss of such a loving and lovable brother, husband, father and grandfather, and at the same time the Nederland High School Class of 1956 has lost another of its best and most loyal representatives.

As a teenager in the 70's he was a friend of my Step Father, Dr. George Campbell. I had received a couple of traffic tickets and he and George would suddenly have them "Vanish". Probably was not a very good idea. But at the time I really appreciated that. I will always remember his kindness and hard work for the community. I admired him from afar. He was one of a kind and surely will be missed.
