Dear Family: I just got to thinking about Carl today and looked for him on-line and now have learned of his sorrowful departure. Carl was my pal when we were both residents at Henry Ford Hospital. We played racquetball together often and he always found time to play with me. I have said a million times that if my brain ever needed to be operated on, NO MATTER WHERE Carl was, I would WANT Carl in the operating room. Even if someone else was doing the surgery, it would comfort me to know Carl was even WATCHING the surgery. My best to you folks and I treasured being Carl's friend during residency. Michael J. I just heard of our great loss in such a great and wonderful talented man. I left St E 6 years ago and have lost touch with alot of our Neuro-Neuro ICU friends. I missed the news as I was in Mexico during his passing. Laurel, Cara and Rachel - My sincerest condolences. God bless you. Thank God that Dr. Shrontz was at St. Elizabeth the early morning in October of 1993 when the ambulance carrying me arrived. He was preparing for surgery on another person, and examined me briefly, ordering an MRI. He told me I had a brain bleed from an aneurysm and would need surgery. It was 5 hours before he could operate and he was surprised I survived until he was able to operate. I am one of his "Miracles." With his skillful hands and God's guiding, I am a walking miracle. I was in surgery 7 hours and died twice on the operating table, so I am truly appreciative of Dr. Shrontz's expertise. I asked God to save my life and he put me in the most skilled surgeon's hands. I will remember him always and be grateful he was at the hospital. Blessings to his family.

Dr. Shrontz did back surgery on my husband in 1986 and gave him and us our life back. He had been in a horrific auto accident and his spinal column was nearly severed. Dr. Shrontz did surgery and 24 years later he is pain free and living a normal life. Dr. Shrontz used his gift from God and helped many lives. We are so sorry for your loss.

Laurel and family, Condolences from the Respiratory Staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital. So many wonderful things have already been said about Dr. Shrontz.........but I just want to say- that when healthcare workers sit around and share their thoughts at the end of the day about the physicians they work side by side with -Dr Shrontz was considered "tops". He was one of those special docs who could teach you something-even in a crisis, and never used a demeaning tone. He could make you laugh, show kindness to those around him, and be compassionate to his patients and their families. Yes, at the end of the day, he was someone you wanted to work with- and if you needed a physician- he was the one you wanted to take care of you or your loved one. His shoes will be hard to fill. Kindest regards, Shelly Cooper
