Dear Friends, Gerald and I are so saddened to learn of Mary Ann's death. She was such a dear person and her beautifully written obituary captured her essence. I shall cherish the many memories I have of our years working together at St. Elizabeth and remember, too, her kindnesses to my daughter, Elizabeth, as Mary Ann followed her through her high school - medical school years. Mary Ann was so proud of all of you. I hope you will be consoled by the prayers of your many friends.

What a fantastic life and tribute to a wonderful woman. I remember Mary Ann from my years working at St Elizabeth... always a beautiful smile on her face and an encouraging word for anyone she knew or just met at the moment. I am truly sorry for your loss and know she will be greatly missed. May God Bless, Comfort, and Mend the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

I have know Mary Ann since in the first grade at Averill Elementary, through Jr. High and at BHS class of '53. Always cute and bubbly...all I can say WOW..to her accomplishments, obviously she was not one to toot her own horn but what a great and giving life she had. She will be missed and my prayers for her family will abound.

Lum,
I don’t even know where to begin to tell you how sad I am at your mother’s passing.

Your mother truly is my other mother and is so much an integral part of my life and my sense of what’s good in the world and how one should treat others and carry oneself. She was one of the most gracious individuals and it showed in everything she did. Knowing that there was a second home where I was treated as family has always been a source of great comfort for me in a world that can sometimes seem so large and indifferent. But your family has always been an open door with light spilling forth, radiating incredible kindness, happiness and love.

And certainly the person you are, Lum, is a great testament to both of your parents and I know is what drew me to you like a moth to a flame. I have been extremely fortunate to have you and your family accept me into your lives. It’s been a blessing I hold dear.

Your mother was such a strong woman in all the right ways. She could be strict when she needed to be and incredibly resolute, but always fair and loving.

I’m so sorry that I cannot be there with you right now. I hate that life gets in the way. But please, please, PLEASE know that I am there in spirit and am weeping at the thought of home without your mother, with her wonderful smile and shining eyes. I know, too, that she smiles down on us all and she is there with you forever.

Please hug your father for me and tell him that I love him. Hug your sister, too. I’m sending you my prayers and my hugs, Lum. I love you so much and am eternally thankful to have you as my best friend (read brother).
