I went to Hardin Jefferson with Melissa. She was always so sweet and had a smile for everyone. May God wrap His arms around all her loved ones now, and in the days, months, and years to come as they learn to live life without their loved one.

My heart is sad hearing this news. Melissa and I had several great years in elementary and junior high school and I will cherish the fun memories I had with her. She wrote me a kind note on my 50th birthday and I am happy she kept an ongoing dairy for her children to read and keep her spirit alive. She was always kind and loved life. I was not surprised to read that she had been dealing with cancer for years but instead of sharing her diagnosis she chose to keep her illness within a small circle (didn't want sadness or pity to dictate her life or those around her). I wish I had been able to tell her what a beautiful friend she was when we were younger but I am thankful that I wrote her a note thanking her for her special words on my 50th. A post from her daughter said to have fun today and laugh…thinking of you today and my love to your beautiful family. xoxo, Heidi

My heartfelt condolences. Melissa and I went to Longfellow Elementary, together and then would see her around the Lamar campus. When I think of her, I see her beautiful eyes and smile. I am so sorry for the family's loss.
