I worked with Jay for many years at Goodyear in the Finishing Building. While Jay always had an opinion on something, he was a good man. I too heard him speak of his useless knowledge, but he did know his sports statistics. While he was very knowledgable, he would still hear you out and hear your position. He would then politely correct you and quote his supporting data, or he would just shrug his shoulders and grunt. That grunt was the sign that told you when you actually had stumped him on something, which didn't happen very often.
We pray that God send His comfort and grace at this time in the lives of his wife and family.

Jan, I know it's been years, but I do sincerely pray that God will send his utmost grace to you and all the family, keeping your period of grief short. The "love of your life" certainly sounds like a very good man. God bless you.

I just found out about Jay's passing - total surprise. Jay was a childhood friend - we grew up together in the same neighborhood, went to school together, played ball together. I have very fond memories that I cherish. Jay was soft spoken, kind hearted & compassionate. The world was & is a better place because Jay was in it. To Jay's family - hang on to your memories of him as we march into Eternity. So long my friend.

Jay Tompkins was a great brother-in-law! He loved my sister so very much! He was always doing some "honey do" projects to make life easier for any one who was in his circle of love! There is a huge void in our lives where once the gentle giant lived. May God's strength and peace surround Jan, my baby sister today and always! Love you Jan!

Well done, Tracey. You captured the true essence of a unique man. Wish I could play just one more round of golf with him.
