Phillip "PJ" Jack Wong

Phil was a talented and well liked co-worker at the Beaumont Refinery. He was a great friend/neighbor of ours in Nederland and we were looking forward to reconnecting our friendship with their recent move to their new home. He was a positive and strong person and even after battling his illness, he would always remain upbeat. We were blessed to be close to Phil and Lorna in the last couple of weeks having witnessed their love for one another and their strong faith. He will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lorna and the Wong family. Love, Wiley and Mary Lou

Though we will not be able to be present for his final journey, we will be praying for healing comfort for all on the loss Phillip.
We are blessed that we got to skype/talk with Phillip in the previous months, and see Phillip and Lorna
only a couple weeks ago while I was on my way to a business trip.

Little did we know it would be the last time. As usual Phillip was being his usual considerate and kind self,
always worried about you more than himself. He was telling us where to eat and what we should order. I know
he wished he could join us but his appetite was fading during our visit. Lisa's experienced Phillips kindness during
our wedding, offering her kind word of encouragement that she wasn't marrying the wrong guy and
consideration for the hot weather. All awhile he was still fighting another battle with cancer.

I've never been a person that talked a lot. I was the 'quiet one" compared to Phillip.
However, I could probably write volumes about Phillip as we were like "fraternal twins" from 1st grade through college.
I will always remember his large appetite for life (not just food or Texas hold-em .. I could never afford to lose
my money). He would become immersed in all the places he visited, the people he met and the stories he would tell us.
His enthusiasm inspired us to travel more, enjoy life more, and try to have a better attitude in life.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Lorna. Our new experience with caring for our elderly parents pale in comparison to Lorna's
love and caring sacrifice for Phillip in health and in sickness. We hope that time heals your sorrows but your memories
of Phillip live on in your heart. All our lives have been better having known Phillip.

Sending my deepest sympathy to Lorna and to the family. I am a better person for knowing Phillip. He was a phenomenal person and will be greatly missed.

My husband first met Philip in the late 1970’s while they resided in the same apt complex in Beaumont. He kept seeing Phillip in the laundry room and assumed he was a foreign exchange student; that is, until they exchanged polite hellos and Phillip answered in his long Southern Mississippi drawl. An Old Miss graduate. From that moment, a lasting friendship was forged. The “group” comprised Phillip, my husband, Bo Peveto, Phillip’s brother, Jack Wong, and Clay Castleberry, Bo’s roommate. Just use your imagination as to the mischief these four were able to find, i.e., eating weekly at the all you can eat buffet, where they were eventually asked not to return; and Thursday nights w/ fried chicken and not to be missed Magnum PI. Some years later, the wives were politely allowed to join the group. Most memorable were the fabulous dinners that Phillip and Jack would cook w/ stir-fry along w/ 4 cups of rice! Those guys could cook! Clay and his wife’s first baby, was a boy who they named Phillip. Phillip was a wonderful honorary godfather to all our children. Family and especially children were a top priority for him and held a special regard in his heart. His warmth, generosity of spirit, hospitality, his friendly smile and openness are something that anyone who had the privilege to meet Phillip would long remember. He would tell stories about his childhood, working in the store after school, having to study and do homework, and how his mother made all those male sons be respectful and disciplined. A good grip on the earlobe did the trick! We were fortunate to eventually meet her and she was everything he had described; a lovely gracious lady. How her children and grandchildren loved her. He loved his job at Mobil and he was challenged by his trips abroad to Saudi and France. We couldn’t wait to have him return from every trip so he could share all his travel experiences about exotic foods, the culture and most interestingly, the people. He made many lasting friendships from his association w/ fellow Exxon/Mobil staff. We are sorry to have lost touch when we moved from Beaumont; so we missed his marriage to Lorna and an opportunity to know her. There are too many ways to describe Phillip and he will be so missed as he lived a life pleasing to the Lord, shared his faith, lived larger than life, took every opportunity and grabbed it w/ gusto, and brightened the room everywhere he was present. Phillip was God’s most beloved son and now his race is won, his reward sure. May the Lord comfort Lorna, his family and friends during this time of great sorrow and loss. “Surely, I am w/ you always.” Matthew 28:20

PJ was always a pleasure to talk to. He worked with my husband at Mobil Oil and was a patient at Weaver's and Jaynes, DDS, where I work. He talked with us about moving to Magnolia, where he was so looking forward to enjoying some relaxing time with his wife, whom he spoke about so dearly. He would say.. "if she is happy, I am happy!!" We will all miss him.

I first met Phil in Saudi Arabia, always enjoyed visiting with him, he was very kind and thoughtful to me when I lost my
daughter to melanoma two years ago.

To the family of PJ I will always remember the friendly smile of this man & how he would make you feel after seeing or talking to him. I am so glad I had the opportunity to know him, he will be greatly missed. Until we meet again my friend!

Dear Lorna,
I was fortunate to have met you and Phillip briefly when I visited cousin Dr. Lynda Tan in 2012 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Enjoyed Phillip's funny stories, he was quite a story teller.
I really appreciate all the love and support you and Phillip have given Lynda and Buddy over the years.

Dear Lorna,
As you know, we have known Phillip since 1984 working in the same Pemref Refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. It was a real joy to remember the times we gather together for dinner, Christmas and wonderful time of singing. Phillip got into the habit of calling me "dad" and since the days in Yanbu has continued to address me in that way! We are so extremely glad that we spent a week in Nederland with you and Phillip in Feb this year and remember how much laughter and fun we had and also how well he was that week with all the eating etc etc ...we will always remember that lovely time. We will miss Phillip but are glad that he is safe in the arms of Jesus - King of Kings and Lord of Lord. The Lord Bless and keep you and make His face to shine upon you.
