To Maury's Family. Please accept my condolences on this great loss for our city as well as for all of you personally.. It was my honor to have served as Maury's Mayor Pro-Tem, and I can't begin to tell you how very much I learned from him. He taught by example and was the ideal model. I will always remember his words of encouragement and know that there are so many others who will miss him and his many gifts. Evelyn Lord

Dearest Ellen,
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family. Even though I didn't know your dad, I see from the Memorial and tributes, he was a man of honor, dignity and strength. No doubt you are his daughter. Praying for peace and healing for you and your family.

I had the pleasure to know and be invited by Mayor Meyers a number of years ago to represent Silsbee and Hardin County on several committees to promote economic development for not only Jefferson County but Orange and Hardin Counties as well. It was his premise and determination that all three counties working together could more easily create new jobs and new business that would benefit not only Beaumont and Jefferson County but all of Southeast Texas. Mayor Meyers was so well thought of in our community of Silsbee and Hardin County that any time he visited our area for any reason, you could be sure of a full house and a great round of applause. I was so honored as was my husband, Bob, Hardin County Commissioner for many years, to call him our friend. He will be missed by many from all over Southeast Texas.

Arlene and family...What a special man he was!!! I will always remember him on Christmas Day greeting the folks at the "soup kitchen" at Some Other Place. He was always our "door man." He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. All of us who had the pleasure of knowing him are blessed to have had him as our friend. He is truly missed. May God be with you all now and always. You are in my thoughts and my prayers. Paula O'Neal

What an extraordinary man. His counsel and leadership molded me at a young age when I shared a paper route with Casey. Mr. Meyers, with his years of business experience, advised me and he tutored us in a way that was on our Jr. High level, showing us how to treat our customers and how to get the best return for our efforts. Fast forward 40 years and he is still involved with guiding me. I called Mr. Meyers a few years ago after my great, young next door neighbor was diagnosed with Parkinson's. My neighbor, like Mr. Meyers, is an athlete, a former college quarterback and a very proud family man. This diagnosis had humbled him to the point of dispair. Mr. Meyers spent hours on the phone with me, guiding me on how to help my neighbor with words of encouragement, suggestions to keep his physical health sharp and advice to help my neighbor in his long battle with his new diagnosis. I'm happy to say that my neighbor is a better man, as am I, for listening to the words of this great man, great father, great civic leader. My neighbor mentally has his life back together, is back at work and possesses a vision that he can now handle the future, thanks to Mr. Meyers. On my way in from work this evening, I could hear my neighbor, practicing what Mr. Meyers preached: staying fit by working out in his home gym (as he now does every evening) so that he too may live the kind of life that Mr. Meyers lived---- As a Leader and Family man that continues to Love and Lead. We are all better off for the influence Mr. Meyers had on our lives. I know that I truly am.
