I want to express my condolences to Robert's widow, children, grandchildren and all of his wonderful family. I only found out today that Robert has passed. When I met Robert in 1967, we found that his mother, Naomi and my mother, Kathleen were friends at Beaumont High School where they graduated together. I last saw Robert when he bought me lunch in July 1980 before I left Texas for Alaska to marry my husband of 34 years, Scott. When I last saw Robert, his kind heart had not changed and he spoke so lovingly about his only son at the time, Benjamin, who was the light of his life. He was so proud of his "Benji" and I was so happy to see in his memorial all the happiness he later found with his lovely wife and daughter and to see the pictures of him as a grandpa. I want all of you to know that my husband and I will keep your family in our daily prayers. Here are a few memories with thankfulness for Robert and the Verde family:: Robert and his family took me to Assumption Catholic Church where I became a Catholic. Making Italian sausage, riding horses and watching Neil Armstrong walk on the moon in July 1969 with the Verde family. Robert's sister, Delores, sewed my senior prom dress and Robert gave me my first (of many) Bassett Hounds for my 16th birthday. All of the Verde family surrounded me with love that I have never forgotten. I am so glad we remained friends until I left Texas and that my old friend found a loving life. Staying in touch was impossible with the distance, but I am comforted by the abundant life he led. May the comfort of our Lord be with you all as you miss his loving presence.

My most heartfelt sympathies to all of Robert's family. I've known Robert since our elementary school days at Assumption school and through my brother's marriage to Robert's sister. He was truly a wonderful guy.
May God bring you all peace and comfort.
