Rhonda, Mandi and Courtney I am sad to hear the news. I have so many memories shared with your family. From golfing on Thanksgiving, to skiing, to many fun hours around the pool. Dane spirit will always be special to all who had the pleasure of his friendship.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Corky or "Cookie" as my kids liked to call him, was one of kind and they certainly broke the mold with him. My kids will always remember how much fun they had at the beach setting of fireworks with Corky. He was a big kid and my kids thought he was so fun.
I will always remember waking up in the hospital in Beaumont after a pretty bad car accident and had no idea what was going on and feeling pretty scared. I didn't stay that way for long because Corky was there and pretty soon had me and everyone else laughing with his wit and humor. Having family with me made a big difference and I was so grateful.
Rhonda, Courtney, and Mandi, I am so sorry for your loss and share in your grief. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

The thing I remember most about Corky my brother was his generosity. Two different incidents come to mind. When I was in late Jr high or early high school, before I ever got my driver's license, Corky took me out in his new fastback Mustang and taught me how to drive a stick shift. After that he would let me take his car out from time to time to drive around the drag. I thought that was so cool!
Later on when David and I were newly married, a disastrous tornado hit Lubbock TX and destroyed the apartment we were living in at the time. Corky drove throughout the night to come to Lubbock to pick me up and drive me home to Pampa. As he was packing me into his car, he reached in his pocket and handed two twenty dollar bills to David. As two poor, struggling college students at the time, that was a lot of money to us. It would buy groceries for us for two weeks!
We will miss Corky tremendously! A light went out when he died.
To Rhonda and the girls - David and I tried to make the visitation in Beaumont last night. We were in the car for 3 hours and never made it out of Houston. There was an overturned 18 wheeler that spilled some pipe on I-10 and traffic was backed up for days. We just had to turn around and make our way back home when we could. We were disappointed that we could not make the visitation, especially since we won't be at the service in Springfield. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Mandi and Scott Modderman, Rhonda and Courtney Cambern there are not enough words to tell you all how sad we all are at your loss. Dane was at home anywhere in the world, whether Alaska, South America, Dubai, Egypt, Africa, China, the middle east or the oil fields of west Texas. Whether in Washington D.C., at the Reagan Inauguration or at the Governors mansion Dane was always smiling and had a joke to tell.
Dane was a great friend and generous contributor to our Country, Texas and Pinewood Community, the golf teams and our club. He will be greatly missed and was one of a kind.
