Vance was a favorite of Jim Wood's and mine. In high school he was known for making up the most entertaining excuses. (I was late because there was a flash flood in the hall and Mamie Floyd was floating downstream on her desk and I had to rescue her." His imagination and joy are what I shall remember about him.
